OUR DREAMER

Na.

Namaste, my
name is Na!

I’m thirteen years old and growing up in the Ombir Family together with my cousins Su. and Sur.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been cheerful and I’m almost always smiling. My friends at school call me ‘Maya’ which is Nepalese for ‘love’. I enjoy taking care of my brothers, sisters and the people in our village.

When I'm not dancing or laughing with my sister and best friend Su, you can usually find me outside looking for puppies. I love animals so much!

Festival of Lights

The celebration of the light festival (Tihar) in Nepal begins two days before the new moon in November. We decorate the outside of our house with garlands made of lights and go out with the family over the course of five days to sing, dance and celebrate. I can wear the most beautiful clothes and use as much makeup as I like. How great is that? I’m so happy!

Cooking for the whole family

With my infectious smile and jokes, cooking becomes a big event for all! I really enjoy helping in the kitchen and preparing food for the family. Of course, music from my favorite Korean pop group is always playing in the background. Or Mick’s mantra music, ha-ha.

I have so much fun at school

I am really pleased and grateful that I can go to school every day. I have so much fun together with my friends at school. My favorite subjects are mathematics, science and English. Although sometimes, I can't wait until it’s Friday, that’s my favorite day. Saturday is our only day off in the week, so, on Friday’s no homework is given.

I hope to see
you in the future!

When I grow up, I’d like to be a tourist guide. My ideal day would be a visit to Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. And this mountain is in our country, in Nepal! I’d love to learn more about all the amazing places in the world.

As a young girl, the future is still far away. I’m fortunate to be able to go to school every day, as I really enjoy it. Going to school brings me a step closer every day to my dream.

Thanks to you, I can go to school every day and can realize my dreams. We are embarking on a special adventure together. Not only do you enrich my world, but I also yours.

You will always be the first to receive my school report, new photos and I hope we will send letters to each other; that would be great!
